The view from my perch on the mountain

Osprey

I was lucky enough to be in Virginia Beach when the Osprey (Pandion haliaetus) young were still in their nests high in the branches of dead cypress trees and the tops of some pines in First Landing State Park.

I captured these last two frames late in the afternoon as this bird was hunting along the Chesapeake Bay beaches of the park.

  2. Wow, they are superb Chip, how lucky to be where birds of such majesty live, and, have the opportunity to photograph them, I too feel a bit envious of you. On my walk with the dogs this afternoon, I could hear a bit of a kerfuffle in the sky, and a poor lone heron was being harassed by the seagulls and a couple of crows, I did feel sorry for it, as they are newcomers to the South of England and aren’t quite accepted yet.

  4. Magnificent birds! It must be amazing to see them in real life in their natural environment, wild and free 🙂 I am sure the spirit must fly with them as they soar across our skies! There’s something about that second shot of the Osprey that caused me to fall in love with it! Wolfie hugs and welcome back! 🙂

  6. Beautiful pictures! I’ve always admired the look and style of ospreys. My favorite is the swoosh across the sides of the face.
