The view from my perch on the mountain

Baby It’s Cold Outside!

What a difference a day makes! 54°F(12°C) yesterday, 20°F(-7°C) with 3 inches of fresh snow today!

The missus is not amused!

The snow showers partially obscuring Big Walker Mountain are moving this way. I doubt that we’ll get much more accumulation here given the strong winds blowing today. The forecast is calling for temperatures in the 50s again by the end of the week so the snow shovel and rock salt will stay in the shed for the time being.

  1. That mama Cardinal does look pretty cold. It’s amazing to me that birds don’t need some wool socks for those skinny legs in the snow. Ha!

  2. I hate this weather. It is way too cold for me up in Rockbridge County. Spent yesterday putting shrink wrap on one particular window that houses the AC unit. We had a dusting of snow (or sneaux). Really glad for that.

Birds are alway so impervious to this kind of weather. They are lucky little things with natural browse, and the occasional bird feeder.

  3. Wow cool! I envy you the shots you’re able to get. So clear. We have upper 40s to 50s all week. Most unusual for Pacific NW this time of year. I want snow.

  4. I’m amazed that your weather can fluctuate so quickly Chip, when it snows here it often hangs around for days even weeks.
Love the little Cardinal, so bright and colourful.

  5. Snow! It only seems like 5 min’s since you were last blogging about the ridiculously deep snow of the never ending variety that you were afflicted with last winter! Time flies 😉 A little like your burds! It’s cold here but hopefully no snow…Wolfie doesn’t want to break the already dodgy back in half! 🙂
