The view from my perch on the mountain

I am not amused!

Best laid plans and all that. Frankie has taken a few days of vacation so that we can go home to see Mom. Mother Nature has decided she doesn’t want to co-operate.

The plan is for us to leave town when Frankie gets off work Monday afternoon. I’m hoping the weather guessers are wrong but it looks as if we’ll be following a snow plow for the first 75 miles. Then again, we may not even get out of town until Tuesday!

While we’re on the western ridge of the New River Valley and usually get more severe winter weather, Roanoke is in the bottom of another valley and it looks like road conditions there should be much better than what we’re expecting

The further east we travel the better the forecast. The trick will be getting far enough east to take advantage of the better weather.

I like the “mostly sunny” in the forecast for Petersburg on Monday and that 37°F will feel almost warm after what we’ve been dealing with!

Not seeing the dreaded S word in the forecasts for the eastern part of the state is most welcome…….if it holds true. With my luck the winter weather will follow us all the way home! Once we make it home I won’t even bother looking at the online forecasts……..until it’s time to return, that is.

As always, whether or not I’ll be posting while we’re away depends on Mom’s neighbors. If one of them is kind enough to have an unsecured Wi-Fi network I will be posting. If not, I’ll have several blogs ready to upload when we get back. If y’all don’t hear from us for the next week behave yourselves and know that we’re thinking of you.

Now, to dig out the luggage and start packing!

  3. WOOT! Actual temperature 18 °F (-8 °C), wind chill 1 °F (-17 °C), partly cloudy with light blowing snow and more on the way! Now, if it will just hold off until we hit the other side of Roanoke we’ll be okay. The first 75 miles look to be the worst while the last 250 should be cold but clear. Knock wood; fingers, toes, legs and eyes crossed! It’s gonna be difficult driving like this.

@ Karen – the weather might as well behave because you can bet I won’t 🙂

@ Juli – I think Mom is more excited about seeing Buddy than she is about seeing me! One of my brothers has been complaining that she has snacks on hand for my dog but none for him. I told him if he quit giving himself concussions from falling off the sofa while trying to scratch his ear with his hind leg she might save him a few treats.

  4. i love snow! the only part i actually get tired of is too much white too long … i think driving in it is fun! i just dont like driving around scared drivers. they always panic. if they would practice in a vacant lot and get the feel of it, and learn to relax …

you’ll have a grand time, im sure! buddy will love the trip!

  5. That s deadly weather if you re not prepared….Here though nighttime temperatures are averaging in the low to mid 60s. An evening at the beach usually requires jeans and a sweater at hand….Best Winter Weather at Night…The best thing about these cool nights though is that they make for perfect sleeping no blankets required.
