Meet Buddy, Wonder Dog in Training

Laura and I dropped Frankie at work this morning and headed straight for the animal shelter. After meeting Buddy Monday morning we wanted to be first in line when he became eligible for adoption this morning….and we were. As a matter of fact, we were waiting for the animal control officer to show up to open the shelter!

Buddy is a Fox Red Labrador Retriever, estimated to be about 3 years of age. We’ve already discovered that he’s a chow hound, likes to play fetch with a tennis ball, isn’t real thrilled about getting a bath and has decided his favorite place to watch TV is right next to my chair.

It will take a little while for us to adjust to each other but I foresee a beautiful friendship. I think Sam would be pleased.

I am sure he will settle in quite nicely. He probably has you sussed out as a soft touch already and I reckon that although he is sitting by your chair now, he has his mind set on being ON your chair before too long! I see mischief ahead and a battle of wits. Nice name, Buddy.

Really like his name, Buddy. Did he already have it or did you chose it?

  5. He’s a friendly critter. Laura tried to get him to sit next to her on the sofa and he sat on the floor in front of her instead. We have a feeling tat he was an outdoors only dog and is really enjoying all the attention.

We named him Buddy in honor of Sam, who was Daddy’s buddy. He was wearing a badly worn collar but had no tags so we have no idea what his name was but he seems to like Buddy and is already answering to it. I have a feeling he has that Lab intelligence and will learn quickly.

  6. Ahhh, and he looks as good over here on this page as he did on the other! LOL. I had to take another peek at him. Looking forward to the photo chronicles of his growing up in the family made just for him — YOU 🙂

  7. Awwww He looks very handsome, I reckon he will be a good Buddy to all of you. Hope he has found his forever home, and you all get on really well. 🙂

  8. I have the impression, Sam would be pleased to see that look on Buddy’s face, which seems to tell about his knowing about him still a little bit present.
About taking seat above or in front of the sofa, Bongo was like that and still he is, even if he is left alone in the house for some hours – he never touched any bed, chair or sofa. The new red woolen carpet is the only thing he ever really occupied by will, recently.

What a lovely sight! I am sure Buddy will soon learn what a wonderful home he has joined and will live up to his name. May I say how handsome he is, too?

  11. Welcome Buddy. You couldn’t have adopted a better family to live with, for they are all well trained by Sam who set a high standard. Your new home comes with responsibilities, for we all expect you to get Chip out and about with his camera on adventures of derring do, and then to bring him home safely …. he gets lost on his own and forgets the time ….. and sit him down to write to us all about the fun and games you got up to.
Don’t forget that although Chip appears to be the boss …. you’ll soon twig as to who has the final say …
    Happy days!!

  12. Well done Chip, I wish you and Buddy a long and happy friendship. You have made the right decision, and I’m sure Sam would approve, but just don’t let Buddy take over his favourite toy in too much of a hurry. let him earn it. LOL
